Notes Data include the arsenic content of arsenic metal and ore, arsenic trioxide (white arsenic), calcium, and lead arsenic compounds exported from the United States. Contained arsenic is calculated using the percentage of arsenic in each compound, when compounds are combined the average arsenic grade is used. Data are totaled on an annual basis. Export data are not available prior to 1913, for the years 1919, 1923–27 and 1965–75. Data are withheld because they are proprietary for the years 1976–77. Data for the years 1978–86 and 1989–95 are from the MCS. All other data are from the MR and the MYB. Data are for unmanufactured asbestos material exported from the United States. Data are from the MR and the MYB. Export data are not available prior to 1916. Export data for the years 1942–2004 were from the MYB. Export data for the years 1942–2004 represent the total quantity of natural and synthetic industrial diamond materials that were exported from the United States to foreign recipients. Export data for the years 1900–41 were not available. Export data reported in the MYB are the amounts of refined copper exported from the United States in various shapes and forms. Export data exclude all semifabricated and manufactured copper products.

Gold exports include bullion, concentrates, doré, ore, and scrap, but exclude all monetary gold. Export data were reported in the MR for the years 1908–31 from statistics furnished by the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce. Export data reported in dollar amounts were divided by the official gold price to arrive at the amount of troy ounces exported. Reporting continued in the MYB in the same format for the years 1932–48. The official troy ounce gold prices used for the conversion were set by the U.S. Congress at $20.67 for the years 1900–32, $25.56 for 1933, $34.95 for 1934, $35.00 for the years 1935–70. Starting with the 1949 MYB, data were reported in troy ounces and value. Exports of pig iron from the United States are recorded from the MYB and MR for the years 1900–03 and 1909–2004. Export data were not available for the years 1904–08 and 1942. The drop in exports for at least the first 3 years following 1900 results from a significant drop in European demand. Export data for the years 1908–2004 represent the recoverable silver content in exported silver bullion. Data were recorded from the MR and the MYB.
